I am born in Ramechhap District in a poor family.  During those period of time, proper health study is not available in my place.  I had a sore throat at the age of 10 but lack of information lead me to treat it by home remedies.  At around class four when I was around 10 years old, I noticed a joint pain which is again treated traditionally.  At the age of 12, I could feel my heart pounding from outside of my chest.  But due to lack of information, appropriate knowledge and finance, my family did not gave emphasis on it and I stayed without treatment until 18.  At the age of 18, I was doing my Bachelors in Humanities at Mahendra Morang Aadarsha Multiple campus, Biratnagar, I had a huge perspiration and went to check up at KoshiAnchal Hospital, where I was diagnosed as a RHD patient and started penicillin instantly.  They did not had an echocardiography machine there at that time and asked me to visit to Kathmandu for Echocardiography testing.  I hardly managed funds and came to check up at Kathmandu for Echocardiography after six month only.  At that time, Dr. Regmi found out that I had a damaged aortic valve.  It was hard for me to bear the news and with the lack of money, my family and friends had lost the hope that I would no longer be surviving.  Since I could hardly bear the suffering of my life, I even attempted to suicide for three times but I could not make it possible.  Then my brother took an initiative and thought to help me out.  We counselled with Dr. Regmi.  Considering my family’s financial condition and need of valve replacement, Dr. Regmi suggested us to go to the SatyaSai Baba’s Hospital at Putta Party, Andrapradesh India.  We went there in March, 1997 but we did not get any positive response, as they said they have lots of patients in the waiting list and they asked us to go back home and they would inform us by 5-6 years.  When my family showed concern for my life after 5-6 years to them, then showed no interest to it.  So then we went to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) at Vellore, India where they asked us to deposit INR 2.5 lacks rupees for further treatment.  It was a massive financial burden for my family and my family had to take a huge decision of selling paddy field for my treatment.  It took almost 2 months for my family to manage that money and I had a successful surgery in May 19, 1997 where my aortic valve is replaced but it still has some leakage in it.  Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi suggested me for re-surgery but other cardiologist here advised me of not to undergo re-surgery as it has danger to my life and my family members were also against it and I could not managed the fund for it as well.  So I am still living with the leaked aortic valve.

I met Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi at 1996 for the first time.  Since I was infected with RHD, he introduced me to Nepal Heart Foundation (NHF) and I became a member of NHF.  Thought I joined the NHF, I could hardly contribute anything to other patient as I was very depressed.  After my surgery in 1997, I was sure that I have a second life with lots of hardship.  Then I thought to contribute my life to help other heart patient, mostly illiterate, children and poor patient.  I participated in the activities of NHF for raising awareness and prevention and treatment of RHD.  I started to work as a lecturer at AIIMS Academy, Nightingale college and Shikar Academy as a part-timer, where I used to teach economics to student.  Whenever I would have opportunity, I would inform them about RHD and ask them to inform their family, local people around their community and children about the RHD.

At 2005, I entered into Civil service as a Section officer.  There is wide opportunity to do something better for children and RHD patient.  When I was working in theMinistry of Federal Affaires and local developmentSingh durbar, I worked in the policy level as well as field level where I worked with World Bank and UNCDF’s project named Human Development and Social Protection Pilot Project (HDSPP).  Then I was being transferred to office of District development committee, Solukhumbu, eastern part of Nepal.  There, I allocated0.2 million rupees grant for free heart examination campsfor the schools going children.  I continuously make people aware about the RHD there as well.  I even allocated the fund of 0.4 million at the Dudhkunda Municipality Solukhumbu district for the same purpose.  Since I had a very hard time due to heart disease, I decided to help children to not have any heart disease like mine.  I have personally requested the Local FM station of Solukhubu to play the jingle published by NHF in regards to the heart disease, prevention of RHD so that awareness among the community people can be raised.  The listed FM stations are Solu FM, DudhKoshi FM, Shikhar FM, Chomologma FM, Himal FM.  I have actively taken my initiatives to convience the district level political party chief and their representative about the RHD and justification of budget allocation of free heart examination camps.  As I am the chief of the District level Education committee myself, I never showed laziness in raising awareness about the RHD among the teacher, guardians and the students to make them aware about the RHD.  Then I was transferred to the Dhading District at Nil Kantha Municipality and there too, I allocated the grant of 0.8 millions for the same purpose of heart camps at four places of the Municipality.  Currently, I am in Ilam district and I am continuously working in raising awareness regarding RHD among local people.
