"Prevention is better than cure"

With the Nobel motive of preventing the occurrence of the disease condition than curing it, a training on "Prevention and Control of Heart Diseases" training was organized on 25th of May, 2019 at Nepal Heart Foundation, Central Office premises Pulchowk Lalitpur to 24 health professionals.  This program was held by Nepal Heart Foundation and Edwards Lifesciences Foundation in association with Rotaract Club of Patan.  CMA, AHM, HA, BPH, Radiologist, and Nurses were made aware of heart diseases and taught them how they can play a role in the prevention and cure of heart diseases.  Project Manager Anmol Maharjan and President of Rotaract Club of Patan (2017-2018) Peshal Bhattarai collectively managed the overall training.

The class on Hypertension by Dr. Harihar Khanal, Cardiologist emphasized on blood pressure, modes of control of blood pressure, prevention of blood pressure through lifestyle modification and treatment and control of blood pressure.  Following this session, Dr. Krishna Kumar Shrestha presented on Acute Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease (ARF and RHD).  He described the disease condition, the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of ARF and RHD.  Students were allowed to pose the questions regarding it so that they could understand the topic clearly RHD is highly prevalent in developing countries like Nepal.  The third and final session was more focused on the prevention of Heart diseases in general and how they can prevent themselves from heart disease with modification on lifestyle.  This session was presented by Prof. Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi.  He talked about eating, drinking and cooking habits and even on the role of exercises on heart health.

The motive of the training was to strengthen the knowledge of health professionals so that they can play a role in the prevention and control of heart diseases.  Training motive was fulfilled by feedback provided by trainees.  Trainees were fully satisfied and gave feedback as this sort of training should be conducted in a timely fashion so that more people will be benefitted. They even said they will use the knowledge gained from the training to aware the people in their place and play a role in the prevention of heart diseases.
